PZ2 to DUF, Converting Poses in Daz Studio
How to do it, and Why you would want to!
This tutorial package was developed with the beginner in mind to introduce new and inexperienced users to how posing works in Daz Studio. In just under 1-hour, you will know everything needed to create and use poses in Daz Studio. You will be able to customize your scenes and artwork with your own visual interpretation of reality. You will start by learning the default pose types and how to apply pre-made pose sets to characters. From there, you will learn how to manipulate objects in the 3D space by moving, spinning and sizing them. You will learn how bones (aka rigging) relates to posing figures and props. You will learn to use the Manipulator tools, Posing controls, and PowerPose tool to get the perfect look you want and need for figures in your scene. This training was designed to help beginners fully utilize poses in their creative artwork, and is not intended to teach you how to create advanced pose sets to be distributed or sold. Apparently almost every response they received was either no or not possible. Well, we're here to tell you it is possible regardless of how practical it may be. In this video demonstration we successfully loaded a PZ2 pose for the Aiko 3 character and saved it as a DUF pose using Daz Studio 4.12. Not only did it work properly when applied to the original Aiko 3 figure in a default T-pose, surprisingly the new DUF worked on the Genesis 8 Female (G8F) with only some minor adjustments needed.    A wise man once said that "Knowledge comes from education, but wisdom comes from experience." Advanced Posing is packed full of the knowledge that you need to get started with posing your characters and figures in Daz Studio. Created with Daz Studio 4.7, it demonstrates how to create your own poses from the simple everyday to professional quality. All that is missing is you and your imagination. You will find that this Studio*Master tutorial covers a wide range of posing related topics, step-by-step instructions and skills exercises to increase your knowledge level, help develop your skill set and increase your experience level. You do not need to have any prior experience with posing to learn posing with this course. This 205-page tutorial is in PDF format and fully illustrated with over 200 images including actual screenshots covering the topics listed below. * Orientation of objects in the 3D Space * The Basics of Posing in any application * Relationships of Bones and Rigging to Posing * Limiting movement to preserve model design * Purpose of Ghost bones for clothing props * Cross-utilization of poses to different figures * Planning your pose and where to begin * Common posing tools and adjustments * Resetting poses and correcting mistakes * Posing with Freehand and Direct Manipulation * Creating standard Content Library folders * Prepping for adequate thumbnail image creation * Saving your partial and full pose creations * Creating and Saving Hierarchical Pose Presets * Packaging your pose files for distribution and much more...Note: Even though this tutorial was designed for use with DAZ Studio, it covers many general posing theories and techniques that are non-program specific and may prove useful in any program that allows users to pose 3D models.

After we posted the video tutorial on how to convert a PZ2 pose to DUF format pose someone stated, "I don't see why it wouldn't be possible-- the part I don't see is why it'd be necessary, if the .pz2 still works just fine."  The answer is simple: Yes the original PZ2 works on Aiko 3, but may not be usable on other figures (even though not intended to) as shown below. When the original Aiko 3 Diving Shot in PZ2 format is applied directly to G8F, the result looks like she is floating in space. When the same Aiko 3 pose saved in DUF format first then applied directly to G8F, the result looks like she is diving backwards and shooting at the same time.

The bottom line is that it all comes down to personal preference and needs.  Sometimes newer models just don't have the range of poses desired (yet), or perhaps you have a set of awesomely created poses you want to re-use without purchasing new sets for the same look.
